Rewritten briefs.

As I've gone through the module some of my briefs have changed ever so slightly for various reasons. The main thing that has changed on many of them is the outcomes that I've created. The reason I've changed the outcomes has been because I felt with some briefs I was creating product for the sake of it when there was already a substantial amount so I've taken products out of the outcomes. These are my final written briefs.

Final crit.

My current resolved work set out for the crit.

There were a few specific things I wanted to get out of this crit but it was mostly about the quality of my design boards. I wanted to know if they told the story well for someone who was looking at my projects for the first time. At this stage I knew exactly where each of my briefs were going so feedback on extension of briefs wasn't particularly relevent because there just wasn't the time for this. It was maybe good to think about how the briefs could have gone further though in other peoples opinions. The feedback I got given regarding my boards was positive in the sense that the people discussing them had never seen the work before and they understood it all. The only negative feedback I'd gotten really was to do with the fact my blog wasn't completely up to date but I knew this already despite trying to catch up in time for the crit. Overall, the crit was really useful and it was so good to see what people had been doing, everyone had some really amazing stuff!

Yearbook; copy sent to marketing.

Duncan emailed us back giving the go ahead with the yearbook so then this was signed off. I then sent this on to marketing so they could approve the design, raise any issues there may be with it and also sign it off.

Yearbook; correct quote colours.

I realised whilst looking at some of the elements I designed for the yearbook extension that the colours behind all of the products weren't the correct ones. At one point the quote colours were slightly different for the original cover we pitched to Duncan so I must have opened this file by accident instead of the newer version when designing the products. The above are the correct quote colours now so I need to go back through and change all of the colours on the products I have designed so far so that they match.

Yearbook; second ammendments.

Duncan emailed back after I sent the second proof of the yearbook to him. There were a couple of minor things to edit again such as one of the images of work so he sent a completely different image which is the last one in this post, this was definitely much better. He also sent through options for the images for the extra pages he wanted including in the yearbook so we could sort this out.

Yearbook; business cards.

More development of the business card idea. Experimenting with the colour etc.

Yearbook; contacting Duncan.

I sent the second proof off to Duncan to be checked over. He also asked about covering the cost of prints that we'd given him so I let him know about this and also the fact we need to donate to the usage of the font which he'd already agreed to but what this specific amount is or that has been suggested.

Yearbook; second proof.

This is the second proof I sent to Duncan once I'd made all of the changes he requested. This doesn't contain the images he would like to add at this stage because we are yet to recieve them but there is an indication of where these are going to go.

Yearbook; postcards.

I've also created postcards as a bit of a self promo element that each student could have with their work at the end of year show. The image on the front of the postcard would be the image of their work within the yearbook and the shape would also reflect this. This would be a good element because then if vistors liked someones work in particular then they could take this away with them. I experimented with the layout a bit but then thought it would make sense if the name on the back was the same as the layout with the name card. The colour on the back of the postcard would also be the same as the name card so the two would link together.

*all physical elements blogged so far for this extension would be printed on 245gsm matt white stock unless started otherwise.

Yearbook; wayfinding//signage.

In order to guide people to the Printed Textiles show I have created some basic wayfinding based on the other extension elements I've done so far. I've created basic squares that would be stickers for people to follow so that they would see them and follow them to where Printed Textiles is located. I've also created a banner so they know where they have got to and to welcome them to the studio. I've done a basic 'map' of how this would look based on the shape of the corridoor leading to the studio. Although these elements are really basic, they tie the overall theme together and bring it a little bit out of the studio so it's not too overpowering.

Yearbook; e-vites.

In terms of inviting members of the public I thought it would be best to have an e-vite because this can be sent to as many people as needed and doesn't have any cost. This means that students could easily send this to anyone they would like to invite to view the show as most people have email nowadays. The design is very much based on the VIP invitation so that the elements link together. I'm not sure that the times are exactly correct but for the basis of mock ups, I just put these in. The concept for this is really basic but more people tend to know about the show with the advertising outside or word of mouth.

Yearbook; business cards.

Although the course contact details could probably be found online I thought it would be quite nice if there were business cards placed around the show that fit within the theme of everything else. This means that visitors could just pick them up to take away and contact Duncan regarding students, the course and anything else they may want to know. Again, the colours would be based on the quote pages within the yearbook.

Yearbook; name cards.

Usually at the end of year show, each student has a name card next to their work so vistors know who has designed the work. I thought it would be good to link this element to the yearbook too. Although the design is really simple, it's a nice touch to tie everything together. I tried placing the name really large in the center but this was too overpowering. Having it quite small in the corner works with the minimalistic approach to the yearbook cover and it still stands out because its white on a bright and bold background. Each students shape of their name card would be based on their shape within the actual yearbook and the colour would depend on the colour of the work they put in the show but would also be based on the colours used on the quote pages.

Yearbook; VIP invitations.

As a starting point for my personal extension of the yearbook brief I decided to start with invitation design. I thought it made sense to have a seperate invitation for the VIP night because the information is different and something really nice could be produced in order to encourage people to come. The concept for these invites is based on the overall yearbook concept so that the two link together. I've also based the style on the quotes and typeface because this is something I worked on within the yearbook. Initially, I thought about including the actual quotes but this doesn't really make sense in this context so I've gone for a simple information based design. The quality would be in the actual print though because these would be printed on silk and sent out to VIP's in the post as this links to the materials they used on the course. These invitations would come in the four different colours that have been utilised within the quote pages. The format of the invitation is also based on the yearbook format. Centralisation of the text is going to be a running theme throughout the extension because this again, links to the quote pages and works well with the minimalistic background because it utilises the space.
