Rewritten briefs.

As I've gone through the module some of my briefs have changed ever so slightly for various reasons. The main thing that has changed on many of them is the outcomes that I've created. The reason I've changed the outcomes has been because I felt with some briefs I was creating product for the sake of it when there was already a substantial amount so I've taken products out of the outcomes. These are my final written briefs.

When I had my tutorial with Fred, he advised that I come up with a creative way of submitting the branding. I spoke to Emily about this to see if she could come up with anything that linked to her practice and she said what about framing it seeing as this links to being a curator. The frame itself is quite large but the overall idea works really well, especially the gold frame because this suits the colours  of the images on the business cards.

Final crit.

My current resolved work set out for the crit.

There were a few specific things I wanted to get out of this crit but it was mostly about the quality of my design boards. I wanted to know if they told the story well for someone who was looking at my projects for the first time. At this stage I knew exactly where each of my briefs were going so feedback on extension of briefs wasn't particularly relevent because there just wasn't the time for this. It was maybe good to think about how the briefs could have gone further though in other peoples opinions. The feedback I got given regarding my boards was positive in the sense that the people discussing them had never seen the work before and they understood it all. The only negative feedback I'd gotten really was to do with the fact my blog wasn't completely up to date but I knew this already despite trying to catch up in time for the crit. Overall, the crit was really useful and it was so good to see what people had been doing, everyone had some really amazing stuff!

Emily Ward Branding; photoshoot edits.

These are the best images from the photoshoot, some of which I will take forward to create my boards.

Progress surgery.

With the progress surgery I didn't really have any questions in particular about my work because I knew exactly what I needed to do to get the work done. I went through each of my briefs and took examples from them to show Phil where I'd got up to and the sort of things I was producing. There was a bit of concern about how much I still have left to do for various briefs and the fact I don't seem to be stressed about it yet. I think it's trusted that I will get everything done though in time for submission though. The main piece of advice I got was, how can I really push all of my briefs in the time I have left available to me? and also not to forget about the greater context of my briefs and how various products will exist. I know that I really need to speed up the pace after this progress surgery but I'm confident I can do it.

Crit.

This was the first proper crit we've had on actual produced outcomes and I felt I had a substantial amount of work in order to get the relevent feedback I required. At this point I had products for some of my briefs and concepts set in stone for all of them as well as various design development so people could see the direction that my work is going to take. I had some specific questions I posted to people about which designs they preferred for various briefs as I'd kind of hit a brick wall with some of them. I feel overall, this crit was really useful and I got a lot out of it. The briefs I was stuck on can now be taken forward using the feedback I've been given. People also seemed to like the direction my briefs were going in so this was really good because at least I know they are working and will hopefully be successful. I filled out a sheet myself too just so I know exactly what I need to do next in order to move on with the briefs.

Emily Ward Branding; favourite images.

After editing these photos and upon closer inspection, I'm not all that impressed with them because I seem to have got shadows in weird places on the images and the background isn't consistent throughout the images so this isn't going to look very professional. The actual products themselves photograph really strongly however, due to their bold colouring. I'm going to reshoot these products when I next book out the studio.

I managed to get both of these briefs print finished so booked out one of the photography studios and photographed the final outcomes so I could get on with making my boards. Although I had quite a small space to work with, I'm pretty happy with how these came out because it doesn't appear that I'll have to do much editiing to these other than maybe cropping them down.

Emily Ward Branding.

After meeting up with Emily today and showing her the designs with the new images she sent me and also the test prints, Emily made a decision about which designs she would like in her set of business cards and also that she would like both her first and last name to be on them. This meant we could send them to print and they should arrive soon!

Emily's test prints came back in good time and there are no problems at all with the image quality or the layout of them. The only difference when we send them off to print properly will be that Emily has requested rounded corners but I showed her my business cards as an example of how they look and she was quite happy with this. We're going to send the final cards off to print as soon as possible!

Once Emily sent over these new images should would like to include as part of her business card set I added them in to the InDesign file ready to be sent off to be printed.

Emily Ward Branding.

At our last meeting we discussed the fact that Emily was going to have some professional photos done of her most recent work that she may like to include on her business cards as an alternative. Today Emily has emailed me with those images so I can place them into the design template we have been using to see if she likes them. I've emailed back asking if she'd like to meet tomorrow as the samples we ordered should be here by then and I can also show her the new photographs in context.

These are the images Emily sent over of her most recent work.

Emily Ward Branding; test print.

I ordered some samples of some of the business card designs that Emily likes best from Moo in order to show her the quality that the business card will print out at and to see if she liked the design in print and not just on screen.

Emily Ward Branding; further development.

After sending Emily screenshots on the current progress of the brief she made some decisions about what she'd like on her business cards. Emily said she preferred her first name or full name as opposed to the signature after we discussion the minor implications of this. She also said she would like her name on the front and the back and really liked the idea of the name on the front being in colour in order to match some of the colouring within the imagery. I've altered one of the designs slightly with just 'Emily' on the front and this is the orange one, I've taken a brown colour from the image instead because this was the only one which was particularly hard to see with the colour orange applied. I'll show this change to Emily and see what she thinks. Originally I'd only applied the colour idea to Emily's full name so i've also gone back and applied this to her first name in order for her to choose what she prefers properly. We've also discussed this week having some free samples printed before ordering a full set to make sure Emily likes the designs when they are sent to print and also just in case there are any problems with the design in general. I plan to meet up with Emily soon in order to take the design to the print stage.
